Welcome, new families!
Dear parents of incoming sixth graders:
On behalf of the Glen Rock Middle School/High School Home and School Association, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you. Middle school is an exciting time of life for both students and those who care for them. Our HSA is an excellent vehicle for information and communication to help parents make the transition as their children go from elementary to secondary school.
Some students might be nervous coming to the middle school. Usually their biggest concerns are, “Will I be able to find all the different classrooms?” and “Will I be able to use the combination lock?” Those doubts last a day or two at most. The administration and staff at our school provide a nurturing environment and work very hard to assure a smooth transition for all the students.
HSA Executive Board members look forward to meeting you at the first meeting in September, and we encourage you to become involved in our organization. Without the daily contact with the school and other parents that occurs at drop off and pick up during the elementary years, parents find the HSA and its committees a great way to stay involved and informed.
Be sure to check the HSA’s Web site grchips.com any time to get dates, fliers or other information. We have six HSA meetings per school year, which are attended by both the middle and high school principals. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity to ask questions, share information, and make a difference in your child’s school environment. Next year the meetings will be especially helpful in getting updates on the construction at our schools. We also depend on membership dues and fundraisers to provide programs for the students, fund our teacher/administrator Wish List, finance hospitality events and cover general expenses. We hope you will be a part of making these things happen.
There will be an orientation in August for new students and a meeting in September for new parents to ask questions. Your presence at school is encouraged, so plan to call and meet with teachers and guidance counselors, attend Parent Visitation Day, volunteer, chaperone, attend at least one meeting, and take the opportunity to be part of a successful school. Your ideas, questions and/or concerns are always encouraged. Please feel free to call any HSA board member listed on the Web site for more information.
Enjoy your summer,
Karin Colquitt
